Pat...I saw your post on your past travels. I too share the passion which I believe was inspired by my Dad at a young age. From the time my sister and I were 4 we used to take month long vacations in the summer all over the US. Generally we camped which even made it better.

Every job I've ever had required extensive travel so over the past 40 years I too have been to all the States except Alaska. I just missed going there my last year of employment because we acquired an account in Alaska that needed servicing but I decided to retire. Of course my business travel was not the same as pleasure travel but I always made a point to search out the history or some kind of trivia about the place I was going. It made the travel more bearable and gave me something to do instead of hibernating in my hotel room at night. At my retirement my friends decided to add up all the trips I had taken since I started there in 1981. The estimate was about 500, of about 200 required flying somewhere and the remainder were driving.

My Dad and I took a trip to Italy when he was 80. It was very special for us. We walked all over Rome and ate lunch on the Spanish Steps several days. He was a retired mailman so walking was something he could do easily. We visited Florence, Pompei, Naples and several small cities on the way to Florence.

I married a girl from Detroit while I was working there and she had never traveled much at all with her family. I have made it a life challenge to take her to as many places as she can stand.

My absolute favorite places are in Utah. Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands and all the other parks and monuments. I love to hike and I love the desert southwest.

After we reitired we have gone south for the winter every year and we always try to visit old friends on the way. This year we went to Atlanta, Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Savannah, two months in Panama City Beach, New Orleans, then on to Houston. We are looking for some place we can go in the Hill Country for a few winters.

My college roommate lives in San Jose, CA so I think Cathy and I are going to take a swing out west in September and on the way I hope to visit a lot of those favorite locations in Utah. Doubt if I will camp since my wife is not into that too much but I'm sure we will do some hiking.

Mary, sorry you missed our get together and hope you'll make the next one. This is a group that can definitely visualize whirld peas. You may or may not be aware that there is a group of Waltripians that meets the second Tuesday of each month at Fuddruckers on Hwy. 290. The Whirld Affairs & Burger Evaluation Comm has no set time but it usually meets about 10 days to 2 wks after the Tuesday night meeting. It started out with me and Jim Taylor, '64 getting together for lunch. Other people from '64 & '65 started dropping in and last meeting Jon Enloe fro '61 joined. We would love to have you join us. The conversations are wide ranging but it's fun. I'll try to remember to send you a special reminder. have a great week.

I remember hearing "House of the Rising Sun" and several other songs that played nearly everyday but I couldn't remember a song named "Hang on to me". I do remember one named "Hang on Sloopy". I found it on YouTube and it was a number 1 hit in 1965 which would put it in our era. I'm including a couple of links:

My husband Tom and I love to travel. He travels for his job delivering specialty vehicles and sometimes I go with him and we find something fun to do before returning home. We've been to all 50 states as well as to Canada, Mexico, Europe, The Bahamas, Costa Rica, & Panama. We love Alaska and have been there three times since Tom's brother lives in Anchorage. We also love Hawaii and plan to return there one day. Looking over the list above, I guess I need to get busy on a scrapbook of our travels. This has been on my "to do" list for quite awhile but I just can't seem to find time to do so.

This coming Sunday, April 18th at 4:00 you have a rare opportunity. There is going to be a local talent show at Oaks Presbyterian Church,Fellowship Hall, 1576 Chantilly, across the street from Black Middle School ( Black Hr. High for you oldtimers). The headliner is none other than

Beau Wann, Jr., '64. Beau will be playing and singing and there will be eight other performers. There is no admission charge (and no preaching) all comers are welcome. It will be a lot of fun and an opportunity to see some folks you haven't seen in a long time. So come on out.

The show should run about an hour and a half. See you there!

Fuddrucker's Monthly Get Together

Greetings everyone. Tonight is the monthly get together of Waltrip Exes at Fuddruckers on Hwy. 290 between Hollister and Pinemont on the north feeder. People start gathering at 6:00 and stay however long they want to. There's no program, just good conversation and food with longtime friends and some new friends. If you can't get there at 6:00, get there when you can. there's usually good representation from '65 & '64 but we need some of you to come on out. It's a good time. Signifigant others or friends are welcome. Come join us tonight. See you there!

We recommend the Diamond Princess - considered by many to be the "top of the line" and we recommend you add on the 4 day land tour of Denali. We added ours to the end of the trip OR you can go there 1st. We flew to Vancouver first & spent 3 days & 2 nights goofing off there before we boarded out ship. Then we cruised for 7 days. Then we did the 4 day land tour (including the rail trip) & returned to Anchorage where we goofed off for another day & caught a LATE flight home that night. Most who do not include the land tour end up going back on another trip to see Mt McKinley / Denali Natl. Park. We LOVED the trip and lucked out with near perfect weather everywhere we went. Normally, on a cruise, we prefer a small cabin with no windows (results in great sleeping) as we usually spend so little time in the room. However, on this trip, we opted for a more spacious mini-suite with balcony & we spent a LOT of time in the room seeing the awesome scenery as we cruised inside the passage where there was lots to see - including whales. We hope to go again one day - either crusing or driving or maybe 2 trips - to do both!
