Susan Thorne (Ralph)

Susan Thorne (Ralph)

Susan Christine Ralph, 63, passed away on Oct. 30, 2013. Susan was born in Houston, TX. on Nov. 3, 1949. Her parents, James and Iceola Thorne, preceded Susan in death. She is survived by: Brad Ralph, beloved son; John Gurney beloved life and business partner; Dick Ralph, former husband; and, a wealth of friends.
Susan parlayed her Univ. of Houston English and Political Science degree into increasingly complex financial management roles in banking and oil with such companies as Capital Bank N.A., TW Oil and EOTT. However, her most cherished roles were as a devoted mother and as a restauranteur. She and John founded and, together with Brad, operated the Dharma Café for 11years (2001-2012). At the Dharma, you were not a customer but a friend. Susan's family and friends will miss her big heart, infectious humor, beauty, fierce intellect and love of animals. She was a giant.
A party celebrating Susan's life will be held at her Montrose home on Sat., Nov. 9, 2013. Friends are cordially invited to attend. Contact scrreception@hotmail.com for more information.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Susan Ralph asks that you make a donation to the Wildlife Center of Texas at 7007 Old Katy Rd., Houston, TX 77024. Namaste.

Susan is another great person from Garden Oaks, if I remember correctly.  Frankly, what I remember about her is a calm, loving person who showed care for others.  Her obituary does not surprise since people were her priority.

NAMASTE (the last word in Susan's obit).  What does it mean?

an ancient Sanskrit greeting still in everyday use in India and especially on the trail in the Nepal Himalaya. Translated roughly, it means "I bow to the God within you", or "The Spirit within me salutes the Spirit in you" - a knowing that we are all made from the same One Divine Consciousness.
