It is with deep sadness that I must pass along the news that another of our classmates has left her earthly bonds and gone to join our Father in heaven.  Melanie Haldas Dennis passed away this morning after months of  battling neuro-blastoma.

I remember meeting Melanie in the first grade at St. Rose of Lima.  She had the most beautiful red hair and peaches & cream complexion.  She was beautiful both inside and outside.  I was blessed enough to have had a wonderful visit with Melanie at our St. Rose / St. Ambrose reunion several years ago -  little did I think that it would be our last.  Melanie was married to James Dennis and has 2 children, Katie and J.R.  Her funeral arrangements are pending.  As I learn them I will pass them along.  Please keep her in your prayers.

God bless you,

Ann Bommarito Armstrong

Classmates,

If any of you are on Facebook please go to Melanie Dennis page and leave a note for her daughter Katie. Katie knows about Melanie's life with A&M, theatre players but not St Rose or Waltrip. She is requesting memories...and pictures.  Thank you!

MELANIE HALDAS DENNIS - 1949-2016

Never was there a woman with a greater heart. Loved by all who met her and cherished by her family, Mel was taken from us on June 7, 2016 after a valiant battle with brain cancer.
Born in Houston, TX on June 20, 1949 to Frances and Joseph Haldas, Mel loved dancing, cooking, sewing, British History, all things science fiction and fantasy, and correcting bad grammar. She adopted everyone she came across (cat, dog, and human alike), and her family and her pets were her world. She was an avid bibliophile and lover of the English language, spent the last 20 years teaching English at Lone Star College- Montgomery and The Conroe Center, and would happily proofread anything you put in front of her. Sorry about the commas, mom.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, James Dennis; their son, R.J. Dennis; daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Adam Holwell; sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Jay Hachen; nephews, Matthew and Joseph Hachen; aunt, Irene Haldas; numerous cousins and many friends.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, with inurnment to follow at a later date.

Melanie was consistently of good cheer!  And her laughter was indeed infectious! I cherish the so many fun times we had at Waltrip High when she was Captain of the Archery team and me for Swim Team. And pure fun memories of being invited to suppers at the Haldas home with her Mom and Dad and sister Melissa and her dog under the supper table!  I will cherish all those memories!  Melanie is now in God's House, and I am certain she is enjoying her Grand Reunion.  See you across the rainbow, Mel... Love, Ellen

Dear All:  Just returned from a very thoughtful Celebration of Life for Melanie Ann Haldas Dennis in Houston. Her son and daughter are fine kids who each gave special words for their Mom who indeed is no longer suffering. And her huband James Dennis was delightful in sharing how he first met Mel and then the moment of the proposal.  The music renditions were upbeat - Lady in Red - for her glorious red hair! all the way to Rod Stewart Forever Young...  And it was fabulous to visit with Mel's younger sister Melissa and a genuine plus to sit with our classmate Deanna Edwards! We'll see Mel again just over the rainbow  Love, Ellen
