Peggy Knapp (Drewery)

Peggy Knapp (Drewery)

Funeral services will be conducted for Peggy Eloise Knapp Drewery, 65, of Nacogdoches at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at Harvest Point Church with Bro. Lee McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in Drewery Memorial Park Cemetery. Peggy passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, in Mobile, Alabama. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home. Robert H. Knapp and Helen Holcomb Knapp were blessed with their beautiful daughter, on Aug. 21, 1949, which they proudly named, Peggy Eloise Knapp. Peggy grew up in Houston and after high school, at age 18, she moved to Nacogdoches to attend SFA. She was awarded her masters degree in elementary education in 1992. She met Harlon Drewery while walking in the SFA grounds. After a year of courtship they were married in September 1968 in San Augustine. After college she went on to pursue her teaching career at Hudson ISD. She also taught an activity directors course every Friday at Angelina College and took on another career as a social worker. She was a very loving person and she never met a stranger, which made her career very enjoyable. She began her social work service career at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Nacogdoches. Peggy worked at Pine Crest Nursing Home for many years until she began working as a social worker at Rock Haven Nursing Home, which her family owns. She enjoyed working and helping out many nursing homes in the East Texas area. She was a very hard worker and an overachiever. After retiring she took on two part-time jobs which she was to start on Monday, Sept. 22. In her leisure time after retirement she found great pleasure in traveling and vacationing with her family, shopping and going to the movies. She was a loving wife, mother and a wonderful "Mamaw" to her very special grandchildren. Her greatest pleasure was being with her family, especially her wonderful grandchildren and her one great-grandchild. She showed and shared her love and belief in Jesus Christ by being a loyal member of Harvest Point Church in Nacogdoches. Peggy is survived by her son, Michael Eric Drewery and wife, Sara, of Nacogdoches; daughters, Stephanie Nicole Drewery of Nacogdoches, Amber Leigh Drewery of Nacogdoches, and Wendy Michelle Drewery Rogers and husband, Joe, of Nacogdoches; sister, Judy Galindo and husband, Tony, of Houston; grandchildren, Helen, Laura, Jonah, Josh and wife, Stephanie, Dillon, Austin, Kaleigh, Calie, Bryson, June, and Ryleigh; great-grandchild, Arabella, along with numerous nieces, nephews and many other friends and family. Those honored to serve as casket bearers during the service are Charles Austin Allen, Randall Dillon Graham, Joshua Scott Roach, Michael McNeely, Heath Drewery and Kyle Drewery. Honorary pallbearers will be Duane Restelle and Bill Prevost. Contributions in memory of Peggy Eloise Knapp Drewery can be made to the church, 2708 South Street, Nacogdoches, Texas 75964. I remember Peggy as quiet but really caring. It is a real blessing to see how some of our class mates really did lead a meaningful life that made a difference to others. God bless you Peggy. On behalf of all those lives you touched....thank you!

I remember going to a graduation party for Peggy.  It was a swimming party.  She was always gracious and a lot of fun.  Judging by her obituary she seemed to have lived a life of dedication to others.
