Thomas L Jester

THOMAS L JESTER Dec 30, 1948 - Oct 7, 2021

Thomas L Jester, of Hunt, TX passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 7, 2021 of a massive heart at the age of 72.  His wife, Debbie, told me there are no plans for a public service.  I invited her to join us on the class website  - on his behalf - to see our personal comments, etc.

She wanted us to know there is a Facebook page for sharing personal comments with their family.  Simply find "Tom Jester" on FB & look for the profile picture of the yellow lab puppy. Anyone can post a message there.

On behalf of our class, I extended our sincere condolences and told her he was loved by many & we were sure he will be sorely missed.

This morning our pastor (Robert B. Thieme III "Bobby” of Berachah Church in Houston, TX) made this announcement:

Mr. Thomas L. Jester of Hunt, TX departed to be Face to Face with the Lord on Thursday, the 7th of October.  Our sympathy is extended to his wife, Debbie, his children Sylvia Gunn, Rylie Gunn & wife Stellina, 5 grandchildren, his sister, Jane Marmion & husband Stephen, and his brother Lt. Col. Robert Jester - U.S. Air Force Retired.  The Jester Family has been associated with Berachah Church since the 1960’s & a private service will be held in Hunt, TX. I have no date on that but when I do, I will announce it.  Tom Jester was a very old friend who many of you may remember had a skeet and trap & crazy quail shooting range for many years where my father & I enjoyed many an hour together.  And, you might all think that, when you drive on a street here in Houston called T.C. Jester – it was his great grandfather. So, Tom will be missed and he was a very great man in my estimation – a wonderful friend and had a great sense of humor.

Tom was a member of our basketball teams that were City Championships two years running.  In our junior year, Tom would often join games with a unit that included Ben Brandt, Dudley Howden and me. To say that we were perhaps exuberant carries some of the feel of those games. My name for us was the bomb squad.  I recall flying bodies and lots of whistles--but it was agression with a smile. Tom exemplified that better than any of us. Everyone recognized that his play was without malice and motivated by a pure love of the game. If I had to guess I would say that is likely how he viewed all of life. The world is less without him.

I remember Tom as a jovial, cut-up kind of guy who loved to laugh and play practical jokes. But, as Tim Duff said, it was always without malice.

I have great memories of Tom Jester.  He was a good friend and teammate on our 1967 city champion basketball team.  He had a great sense of humor and jump shot.  Everything was just more fun when Tom was around.

Although I wasn't close friends with Tom, I remember him from several classes we shared, especially PE. Just a really nice guy, and one you always wanted on your team, especially for "dodgeball " and basketball - (remember "Shirts and Skins"?) My younger sister Debbie was friends with Tom's younger brother, Bobby. I remember in the early fall of 1970 hearing the unbelievably tragic news from Debbie about the passing of Tom's then wife, Linda Cauthorn. I could not comprehend this. They had only been married about two weeks - she was only twenty years old. About a week or two after that, I was in a "Steak N' Ale" on a Friday night with Louis Calderera, and we noticed Tom with a group of his friends, who had brought him out for the evening. I went over and expressed my condolences. Very sad.

He was a good guy.
