Please join us to celebrate the life of Thomas Larvin at The Fellowship at 3:00 P.M. CST

Thomas Dixon Larvin was born in Long Beach, California, on January 1, 1949. Thomas lived an exciting childhood, often moving from state to state due to his father’s career as a Geophysical Engineer at Shell Oil Company. The family lived in California, Wyoming, Montana, Florida, Mississippi, Rhode Island, Texas, and Louisiana. Thomas' family had a passion for camping, and some of his fondest memories were at Yellowstone National Park, a place where he was proud to one day take his own family.

After graduating from Waltrip High School in Houston, TX, Thomas enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. During his training at the Great Lakes Naval Center in Chicago, Thomas suffered a very rare and massive stroke, altering the course of his life in an instant and forcing a medical retirement from the armed forces. The stroke he suffered caused Thomas to be handicapped for the rest of his life, but it was a challenge and obstacle he recognized as eventually giving him a new perspective on life, one in which he eventually dedicated to Christ. Before Thomas' spiritual transformation as a Christian, Thomas lived a carefree lifestyle, often visiting his brother, Jack, in California, where they undoubtedly had many adventures, some of which haven't been spoken about since they occurred. Thomas loved this period of his life, but not as much as the next chapter.

In 1977, Thomas met Linda Green, another adventurous soul who also spent her childhood moving around the country. Her father was also an engineer, but not for an oil and gas company, but for IBM. Linda and Thomas instantly became friends, and four years later, they were married. For the next 43 years, they exemplified the true meaning of marriage. Their love created a wonderful family, and in 1986 and 1990, the other two loves of Thomas' life were born, Kara Hope Larvin and Kacy Rochelle Larvin. Thomas loved his girls very much, and he would often email many of the people he knew, bragging about what they were up to in the various stages of their lives.

Thomas started Security Communications in 1981, which was later merged into a partnership with his longtime friend, Lee Slocum, under the name Creative Switching Designs (CSD). In 2015, they sold the company, and it is still operating in the Houston area today.

Above all, Thomas' main focus in life was Christ. He was very active in his church, where he led a life group, served as an elder, and loved participating in super Saturdays—an event held by the church where many men from the congregation would talk to men in various prisons about Jesus. He also volunteered throughout the community and served on the Board of Katy Christian Ministries (KCM).

Thomas' retirement was a wonderful time spent traveling, shooting his many guns, spending time with his grandchildren as "Bobba," and pursuing bucket list destinations with Linda.

Thomas' mobility took a sharp decline in 2020 with his first back surgery, which was the first of many surgeries that added to his continued pain. On October 11, 2023, Thomas became permanently pain-free. His homecoming in heaven included his parents, sister, brother, and first grandchild, baby Harper. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda; his daughters Kara Hughes and her husband, Andrew, and Kacy Duensing and her husband John; his mother-in-law, Ruth Green; and six wonderful grandchildren. We will miss him dearly, but he is now in his eternal home, much happier and free from pain.
